NECESSARY POST-WAR WORK

Writing the Whakatane Borough Council last Monday evening the Waingarara Settlers Association (Wainui) solicited the Councils support to its proposal to cite the completion of the Wainui Highway as an urgent work for rehabilitation after the war.

The,-letter' stated that tlie route would cut off 12 miles between the towns of Whakatane' and Opotiki, and that its formation had. only been stopped as a result of war contingencies.

The Mayor said he thought the Council would favour the move which made for the completion of the Higlrway as surveyed. He moved therefore, that representations be made to the P.W.D. along the, lines indicated.

Cr Canning seconding said he: considered the proposal should receive the fullest support.

The motion was carried
