AIR TRAINING CORPS
FORMATION IN WHAKATANE
OPPORTUNITY FOR BOYS
As mentioned in these col-
umns two weeks ago a move is now afoot for the formation of a branch in this town of the Air Training Corps, a scheme which is dedicated 1 to the training- of youths) from 16 to 18 years and from 15 to 18 years in the case of school units.
Boys who join the local squadron will be given a service- of their own in -which they are taught the pre.« liminarv work of th ing and aeroplane construction—thus they will have been given a start and an interest in the world's future mode of transport.
They have their own N.C.O.s selected from their ranks—the opportunity of travelling to the various Air Force camps for courses of training—tliey learn service conditions. The cadets are taught the finest side of service 1 ife—they are supplied with uniforms, the same as the. Air Force with the exception of buttons and badges, and are taught the honour of the King's uniformin such a service the best of life long friends are made.
Evcit part of a cadet of. the A.T.C.s training is of interest covering a large range of interesting lectures such as— Aircraft recognition A.R.P. and anti-gas Airmanship Airframes Theory of flight Administration Armament First, aid Physical training Signals . Mathematics Aero engines Navigation Radio Electricity/ Aircraft maintenance. The above subjects cover a long period of interesting work, that has the possibility of building a big future for every boy with the interest to advance in life.
