PLAINT FROM ISLANDS

MORE FRUIT LESS BEER

LOCAL SOLDIER'S LETTER

Writing home to his mother, Mrs Dent of the Heads, Cpl. Stan Dent who is with the 'Kiwi' forces now in New Caledonia, states:— The apples which arrived in the best of. condition were very welcome and you don't know how much we enjoyed them. Its: a •wonder they don't ship more in fact I would pre-i fer a case of apples in place' of the beer which is sent across but I guess the majority rules. I am sure all ex-members o.f the Rowing Club will full}' appreciate the efforts made to protect and maintain the club's gear. You would be surprised to hear the rumours that, get about and. at the moment we are watching the Government's proposals about ourserves. Its a matter of talk versus facts, and things on hand. I often wonder what you hear for its surprising how things get about. Well folks the sun still shines, the rain still falls, and the, wind still blows and the washing stiHi falls into the dirt so I'll have to closkj and put back washing and line up in the mess, then sleep, so the days go by.
