BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
The Waimana Hall was the scene I of a most enjoyable coming of age dance recently, when Miss Ruby Hughes,. W.A.A.F., Avas. honoured. The music for dancing Avas played by the Casa Loma orchestra and Mr A. Bell obliged with an extra. Mr Bertie Hughes capably acted as M.C. Mr and Mrs Hughes received their guests as they arrived; Mrs Hughes Avearing a smart floral marocain frock and Miss Ruby Hughes a charming blue spot muslin frock, with a pretty blue shoulder spray. The novelty dances Avere most popular, especial!}" the broom and confetti dances. The Monte Carlo Waltz Avas, Avon by Miss P. McConncll and Mr H. Spanhake. A delicious home-made supper Avas served, the beautiful pink birthday cake A\ T as made by Miss. Mary Hughes and was decorated Avith 21 candles and small aeroplanes. Mr R. Fleming in his usual happy wa}', on behalf of all present Avish* ed Miss Hughes a A'ery happy birthr da 3% and also presented her Avith a golden ke3*, Avhich Avas later autographed by the guests. Miss Hughes also spoke thanking her parents for the. pleasant eA'ening given her and also thanked those present for the beautiful and useful gilts. The usual toasts Avere duly honoured. Dancing Avas continued until a la,te hour, the National Anthem closed a most enjoj'able evening.
