AIR PROMOTION
LOCAL PILOT'S PROGRESS FLBCjHT-LIEUT RON STEWART Word has been received by Mrs C. S. Comiskcy, of Valley Road, that her son, Ron, who is serving with the R.A.F. and has distin-i guished himself in many of the major raids, over the continent, has been promoted to the rank of Flight"* Lieutenant. This is a singular honour for a man who is only twenty-three years of age and has had only two years training. Ron Stewart will be warm--lv complimented by his friends in Whakatane, where he was born and educated. Joining up early in 1941, lie was commissioned in Canada at the end of that year, and arrived in England, in November. Last December he was promoted to FlyingOfficer. He commenced service, flying with a Wellington Bomber Squadron, but was transferred to the Lancaster branch about the time of the L© Creusot raid last year, in which he participated. He is still serving with his squadron, and has taken; part in the thousand-bomber raids on Essen and Cologne. As a result of his intensified fly-» , ing operations he is now enjoying a six months spell off flying duties*
