An interested visitor to Whakatane at present is Mr Patrick Keegan of Auckland, who may be Classed as one of the. district's early settlers. Mr Keegan who arrived here:—lß96 was a very active public man in his long term in this town. He served on the Borough Council, County Council, Chamber of Com-, mcrce and Harbour Board, and was one of the first to realise the great potential possibilities of the Plains. Now living in Auckland in retirement he has just completed the manuscript of a book on early New Zea'land which will be. published as soon as the war regulations with regard to paper are lifted. The book will be entitled 'The First Generation.' Mr Keegan is at present old acquaintances and is: struck with the manner in which the town has gone ahead.
