DRIEST MONTH ON RECORD

MARCH 1943 will be remembered by meteorologists throughout this area as the driest month to date on record. Fortunately the last days of February provided several' refreshing downpours which saved the wilting landscape, and it would almost appear that April will commence with the same welcome feature. On the plains only .06 inches were recorded while in Whakatane the measurement was .25* inches. The average fall for March on the plains was 4.10 inches with last year's figure at 3.29 inches.
