PRICE OF WOOL

THAT 15 PER CENT

DISCUSSION BY FARMERS

The Government's attitude regarding the British Government's allowance of 15 per cent ,011 the price of New Zealand avool has engaged the attention of the Dominion Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union. At the monthly meeting of the Auckland Provincial Executive, on March 17, a letter was received from the Dominion Secretary (Mr A. P. O'Slica) stating that his executive's view was that any action by Provincial Executives was a matter for their own decision. It was added that sheep-farmers resented the application of the compulsory loan principle to themselves alone, especially as they had already contributed, heavily to war loans. It was also mentioned that some of the South Island sheep properties were being closed owing to -increased costs. A resolution passed by the Dominion Executive, for transmission to the British High Commissioner in New Zealand expressed appreciation of the action of the United Kingdom Government in regard to the price of New Zealand wool. This action, it was added, was unfair than what the New Zealand Government and its supporters were prepared to extend to the sheepfanners of the Dominion. The president (Captain; H. M. Rushwortli) said that the MakaraHutt Provincial Executive was taking .action with a view to having the legal position tested. On the motion of Mr N. J. B. Dougherty (Ohura), seconded by Mr A. E. Bryant (Te Awamutu), it was decided to write to the MakaraHutt Executive, expressing appreciation of its action, and stating that if necessity should arise the Auckland Executive would support any recommendation made to the Dominion Executive.
