IN BAD REPAIR
WATER WORKS PUMP NEW INTAKE VALVE REQUIRED In the course of his report to the Borough Council last Monday the Electrical Engineer, referring to the water works said: — "The pumping plants have been in service every day during the month. No. 1 pump is in a very bad State of repair and will have to be completely pulled down for a complete overhaul in the very near future. I would, like to suggest to the Council that a valve be installed in the main delivery pipe. At. the present, time it is necessaiy to drain the delivery pipe to do any work on the. valves etc. in the pumping station, and trouble is then experienced in being able to prime the pumps to get them to again lift the water. Considerable new work will have to be done in connection with the new pump and repairs to the existing valve seats is at the. present time necessary but owing to the risk of being able to prime the pumps this work has not been carried out. The well is also in bad need of the mud and silt being removed. This work will necessitate the placing of a canvas bag over the strainer in the river to keep the water out of the avcll during cleaning operations and can only be carried out while the river- is very low." The Council on the Mayor's motion agreed to authorise the purchase of a new valve;
