AWAKERI CENTRE

ANNUAL MEETING HELD

The annual meeting of tlic Awakcri Patriotic area was helcl in tlio local hall on the 4th inst when there was a fair attendance. A statement of receipts and expenditure was read by the secretary. This showed that a total of £632 had been handled by the committee, the major receipts coming from a house to house, canvass which produced £416 and dance profits which totalled £124. Although the quota had not been gained by the district through its own operations, the amount had now been passed o'wing to the Government's action in making itself responsible for the. cost of parcels. Outgoings were chiefly concerned with parcels £33 and payments to the centre, £611. Election of Officers The election of officers resulted as follows:—President: Mr L. Lux ton. Secretary and treasurer: Mr T. F. Kerr.. Committee: Mosdauics T. Fowcll, A. Dodunski, A. Barr and A. Martin and Messrs Coll Mac Donald, C. Duncan,'A. Smith, A. Dawson, A. Baldock, A. Marsh. J. Nicol and H. J. Ryde. Mr Hyde, delegate to tlic, centre, reported upon tlic recent meeting where lit had been decided to leave the Paper Mills in Awakeri Zone. He also stated that the quota for this area would be about £670. A census of the district was also asked for by the centre. Activities for the coming year were confirmed as follows: — Monthly dances, house to house canvass, and major sports meeting and at least one major raffle. Messrs J. Baty and F. Sutton were heartily applauded for their splendid gesture in offering a canteen of cutlery (or soihe other suitable prize) for a raffle. A sub-committee was set up to with the fixing of a site and date for the sports meeting, the personnel being Messrs G. Duncan, A. Marsh, A. Smith and R. Butler. Tlic Stephenson Sovereign raffle was finalised the winning ticket, No. 21, beiing held by Mr T. F. Kerr who intimated his intention of donating the sovereign for further patriotic use. Airs A. Martin Avho has done such excellent, work as buyer and organiser of the Ladies' Parcels Commits tee will, act. in the same capacity for the coming year. She also undertook to organise a general ladies' committee.. As the meeting concluded the present thanked all who had done anything to help along the Avork of. the committee during the past year.
