SEQUEL TO COLLISION
The Transport Department proceeded against a number of traf- e fic offenders at the March sit- t ting of the Whakatane Magis- B trate's Court over which Mr E. I L. Walton, S.M., presided. r c Phillip Howell who did. not appear was charged with failing to keep to the left side of the road on the evening of December 24 last. The Inspector in evidence described; the accident which resulted betwc.cn defendant's vehicle and a taxi in which it was proved that Howell's car was 18 inches on the wrong side of the road. Fined £1 and costs; 10s. g Milton N. Cave pleaded guilt}' to permitting his car to be driven to Te Kaha in defiance of the terms of j his license. Defendant who expressed regret was fined £1 and costs 12s, j D. Wilson for driving a motor cycle without being the holder of a license to do so and without the re- . qui site certificate of fitness Avas fin- t ed 5s and costs 20s 6d on the r first count and 14s and costs: 35s 6d on the second. j Edward Cooper for driving a car j with defective lights was fined £1 and costs 10s, while Gilbert H. Dain- ( ton was fined 5s and; costs 12s for riding a bicycle Avithout. a light. Straying Stock 1 The County Traffic Inspector pro- j ceeded against Richard Nathan for | permitting a black pony mare to Avander at large at Paroa on January 30. Fined 10s and costs 35s 6d. Similar proceedings were instituted against Tamati Kaiwhata for alloAving another animal to roam at large on January 15. Fined 10 1 and costs 35s 6d. Jim Hohapata for permitting a 1 bay gelding, a mare and a foal to wander at large on thei Paroa Main Highway Avas fined £1 and costs 35s Od.
