WHAKATANE DEFEATS TANEATUA
In a match against Taneatua ox* Sunday Wliakatane defeated the l visitors by an innings and 4 runs in a game played under ideal conditions. The ground was in good trim after the recent rains and overhead, conditions were pleasant. Taneatua won the toss: and elected to bat. Steady bowling by the four Wliakatane bowlers made runs hard to get and wickets fell steadily with the visitors out for 72 McCready 10' and Thompson 14 were the only two batsmen, to show form. Wliakatane batted vfor half an hour before the luncheo.it adjournment. and had 46 for two on the board, when the game was resumed at 1 p; m. Grant played a usefuil 18 before being bowled by Rowson. McKenzie carried on in grand style to compile 78 and together with Rivett (21 runs) put on a useful sth wicket partnership of 72 runs., With an hour and a quarter to play Taneatua batted again and the last wicket fell just on time with the side all out. for 81 runs.; HanM mond and Rowson hit up a breezy ninth wicket stand of 40 runs but the varied pace bowling of McKenzie saw five wickets caught in the slips.
