WHAT SHOULD A MAN GIVE?
WHILE he made it quite clear that the individual was the best judge of what he or she should be prepared to give towards the Borough Patriotic fund, the basis of 5/- per month as set out by Mr W. chairman of the Men's Committee, as a reasonable amount to expect from the average working man with a family seems to us to be $ very fair one. There are we know, sufficient calls upon the: average person, these days of rationing and exaggerated prices to see that the Patriotic Quota does not become a back-breaking burden to those who are already shoulder* ing heavy family responsibilities. With six hundred householders in the Borough, ,even if the average were only 5/ j per month, and everybody did. their duty by this basis we should be able to raise the £1800 required apart from the 4 £750 which the ladies have undertaken to find.
