SALT WATER BATHS
AS has been said so often, its an ill wind that blows no one any good, and the same is very true of the town's effort to reconstruct the Rowing Club's shed on the waterfront while the members are away overseas. Coupled with the new move is the resuscitation of the older question of salt water baths, which as Mr G. A. Brabant mentioned at the Harbour Board's meeting might easily be incorporated in the: projected rebuilding scheme. It has already been proved that the suggested construction of cold water baths on the waterfront is backed by a considerable weight of public opinion and, we are glad to see the proposal included in the. list of undertakings for rehabilitation work in the Borough. The site however is set down in the Domain in order to be closely linked with the other sporting facilities. It is a well known fact that salt water baths are far more beneficial than fresh and in towns such as this, with a limited water supply, there is every possibility of a shortage during the hot summer months when the baths are most essential. However the question of site is a secondary one against that of actually deciding on the construction of the baths and we trust that the movements now afoot will consolidate sufficient of public opinion that the baths will become a reality, with their situation preferably by the sea, for the benefit of learners.
