MENACE OF RABBITS

REPORTS from Manawahe indicate the growing menace of rabbits in that area which are breeding at an alarming rate and threatening to overrun the countryside. The cause is set down as the absence of sportsmen who annually destroyed a large; number and kept the rabbit population within bounds. To-day according to one farmer rabbits are everywhere. The presence of this plague on the Manawahe plateau constitutes a serious threat to the fertile Rangitaiki Plains which after many years of careful and thorough application were ridded of these pests almost to the • point of disappearance. Urgent work on the new threat from Manawahe is imperative.
