Ruatoki Tribal Committee The task of entertaining, catering and generally arranging for the accommodation of visitors to the military parade and conference at. Ruatoki last Sunday Avas. in the hands of the Ruatoki Tribal Committee, of which the 1 Chief Takarua Tamerau is chairman and Mr T'ui Tawera secretary. Something of the size of the undertaking may be gleaned from the fact that the Maori Home Guardsmen came from as, far away as Cape Runaway, all parts, of the Rangitaiki, Ruatahuna and T« Whaiti. That's an Insult ! Alleging that at Hastings when a new batch of battledress, uniforms had arrived for the. Home Guard, the members had. appropriated them all and handed their second-hand and worn uniforms to the Maoris. Sir Apirana .Ngata addressing General Bell last Sunday, shouted "That's an insult . and, we Maoris find such treatment intolerable.." Responding General Bell said that the incident had not occurred in his territory and if it . had someone would- have been 'on the mat' about it. Plunging Horse Scatters Pipers One of those unrehearsed incidents which are always, attended by a large element of humour occurred as. the Pipe Band headed th<* parade at Ruatoki down the road back to the Pah. A Maori riding towards the marching column had the greatest difficulty in controlling his mount, which as the band; drew nearer proceeded 'to plunge, and pigtrot until almost amongst the men in tartan. The Land after bravely blowing v decided to treat discretion as the, better part of valour and scattered. It took a few minutes to return again and strike up with regained dignity.
