SEVEN YEAR TERM EXPIRES

Disappointment at the meagre attendance of the general public was voiced by the chairman of the Whakaitane Domain Board, Mr G. A. Brabant, lasit week at the meeting held to mark the expiry of the seven year term of the Board and the re.-appointment of new members. Mr Brabant gave a brief outline of the Board's activities since its inception and thanked all members for their past interest and co-opera-tion. He hoped, lie said that they would continue to show their interest by remaining on the board in service to the town. He asked Borough Council members; who were also on the Board to convey their appreciation for the grants which had been made annually for the 1 Domain's upkeep, and also paid warm tribute to the Secretary, Mr C. S, Armstrong ,for the capable manner in which he had handled the Board's affairs. Other members also added their praise to the thorough manner of the secretary's service. Mr H. G. Warren initmated that with Mr L. Rj. Spring he had Come along to unofficially represent crickctiiig interests, in the district. He thanked the Board for past assistance -and interest. Upon calling for nominations for the new term, Mr Warren suggested that all the original members should be reinstated. This was agreed to and. adopted. It was also dccided to approach the Minister of Lands for permission to increase the membership of the Board to nine, instead of seven as in the past. Provisionally Messrs Spring and Hubbard were nominated. Mr Spring, on behalf of the public thanked' the Board for the work that had, been done. He pointed out that Whakatane possessed one of the best Domains he had seen or played on, and added it was very gratifying to see the members of the old Board, some of which had been on the Board for 14 years again accepting nomination. He Stressed the necessitly for keeping the board alive, in view of the need after the war for playing facilities and mentioned the wonderful asset to town and district. Avliich the Domain constituted. A brief discussion on the camping site, also occupied the meeting, find also the A. and P. site. These matters will be discussed, at latei routine meetings of the Board, members; of which expressed the hope that in time to come the Domain would become the town's centre oJ' all sport.
