OUR EXCHANGE
THERE ARE ALWAYS TWO SIDES LESSONS IN DOGGEREL We have been handed the following screed Tor publication m order to show something of the difficulties with -which the much-maligned operators in the local exchange have to put up Avith. As is our privilege when we feel there are two sides to a question we liave given our version in similar vein. Civility , It t<a.kes all sorts to make a world, At least that's Avhat I'm told, But civility costs nothing, * 'lis good for young and old. So when you use a telephone. Be civil for a change, And make the job a happy one For the girls in the exchange. Now if you're in a hurry, And your number, is engaged,. Don't get all excited And fly into a rage. Just have a little patience Perhaps it may seem strange, Take something for your liver, Be pleasant for a change. So when you ring for toll, Remember, lie polite, And if your liver's dirty Take steps to put it right/ Don't grumble in the ear Of the girl in the exchange, Just take a deep long breath, And be cheerful for a change. ' (Editorial Comment) Though modesty compells us Where ladies are concerned, To hide our ruffled feelings When phonic wires have burned. We would to heaven like to know; What happens when our voices go, And new ones with persistent flow . Make heedless conversatio. Our frantic.-efforts. melt like snow Before a rep-hot furnace glow. Now please explain? Another blow, lis how Ave stick an hour or so . Plugged into lines we do not know Till neither >end can come or go, In spite of. pleas and, bribes of dough* A further jolt is appropos The cutting off Avithout a show Of protest from the outraged Bo Who pays for service and should . knoAV A few tilings ex-officio. Why don't you even shout 'below' Or say the senice has 'gone slow* Subscribers then at least would know! So that is: why.we sometimes blow Or grumble, as you have it so, Into the 'pretty ear' (what no !) Of th'o girl in the EXCHANGE.
