CHANCE OF A LIFETIME CANNING v SULLIVAN AGAIN Cr Sullivan was. proceeding at some length to criticise the chaotic conditions .surrounding the administration of the various industrial awards at the Borough Council meeting when the voluminous annual report of the Employers Association was tabled for the edification of the assembled City Fathers. "The war Lime interpretation of the awards is just so much piffle," said Cr Sullivan, Avhen describing how one department over-ruled the other in their, interpretations. The position had, he said, become so involved that no one knew just what the true position was. He failed, to see Avhy it was not possible to merely extend the l hours on an overtime basis instead of creating special clauses and exceptions. To his mind the whole framework should be scrapped and put upon a simpler and- more equitable basis, lit was time they woke up to the complete mess things were in." "Cr Sullivan says that the public should, wake up to the situation," was Cr Canning's quick rejoinder. "Well we, of the public of the Bay of Plenty have elected him to go to Wellington, and wake them up. That's his job and its up to him to take the right steps to lix it up."
