PHYSICAL STANDARD MAINTAINED

THE recent age, group ballot for war service, which incidentally is the seventeenth draft for men since the introduction of compulsory service, repealed the same high physical standard) which has been consistently maintained for the district. Of the 98 men medically examined 62 were listed as grade 1 (overseas), 19 as grade 11, 14 as grade 111 and 3 as -temporarily unfit. It will be seen therefore that 84 are graded fit for military service leaving a bare 14 as unfit. This extremely high percentage of fit men is in agreement with all medical examinations of the past and is something of which Whakatane may well be proud.
