EYE TO FUTURE

FIRE STATION PLANNED

PURCHASE OF SITE

At its last meeting the Whakatane Fire Board decided to apply to the Loans Board for the sum of £400 for the purpose of purchasing two sections on Commerce Street fronting Domain Road to serve as a future site for a central Fire Station. The present station is a building rented from the Borough Council, and is more "or less merely a stopgap until a permanent station is built. The Board has decided in view of the progress of the town* that the lime lias at last arrived to consider a site, even though it may not be possible at the present moment to build. The site in mind is considered. central being handy to the business section (known as the 'high risk* area) and also within fairty easy reach of Whakatane's widely scattered residential districts.

The preliminary arrangements now being completed it means that the Board is definitely committed, to a policy of expansion, which it must implement upon the first favourable opportunity.
