WASTE OF MILEAGE

DAIRY COMPANIES BLAMED

ZONING OFFICER'S SUGGESTION

"Information coming to light as a result of transport zoning investigations show that the waste of mileage even on peacetime standard has been remarkable," said the North Island transport zoning officer, Mr H. AL Christie.

"Among dairy companies this is specially noticeable, and it is to be hoped that after the war these companies and their suppliers will get together and work out a better sys-i tem of operation. Similar waste lias occurred in a number of different classes of businesses.

"From the experience gained it is clear that, wherever possible l directions for uniform action throughout New Zealand should 'be applied. This would to a great extent eliminate undest and ill-feeling which may result, from different rulings by; zoning officers, oil fuel controllers, transport committees and so on.

"it is talking some time to collate the facts, but information is being collated which will allow the Minister of Transport to demonstrate that a great saving is being effected by control and zoning schemes."
