LIGHTING RESTRICTIONS
WARDEN EXPLAINS POSITION
"We realise that many people are sadly disappointed, but the decision does not lie in our hands," said the Chief Warden, Mr H. D. Caro, at a meeting of the Central Committee of the Hamilton E.P.S., in pointing out that the new lighting regulations would not permit of any change being made on lighting restrictions in Hamilton.
Recently an announceiffent by the Minister of Civil Defence led people generally to believe that the necessity for preventing sky-glow frorii the inland towns had passed, and they might expect some let-up, said Mr Garo. "A perusal of the official orders, however, shows that, there can be no change made here in that respect," he added. "The only, thing we might <lo is to replace some of the street lights that have been removed, but if Ave do this they wall have to be covered like those at j>resent. in use, and as we are already experiencing the greatest difficulty in keeping to our allocation of units of electricity it appears that the very little benefit we might derive would have to be offset by reducing our consumption in some other way."
