PILOT BERNARD B. GOOD ALL
Sgt Pilot Bernard Bryn Goodall who met his' death in an aircraft accident on August 15 lasl was born in Nelson, South Island' in 1919. He was educated in that town. In 1930 he came with his parents to Lichfield, Put'aruru in the Waikato. He completed his education at the Putaruru District High School, and then assisted his father in the management of many well known farms in that district. He took a keen interest in both football and cricket and represented the Putaruru Union in both games. He came to Whakatane and joined the staff of the Paper Mills a few weeks prior to the commencement of active
operations. In Whakatane also he took a keen interest in both football and cricket and played both games. At the outbreak of war he enlisted in the Air Force but did not go into active training for some time having to wait his turn. However he entered Weraroa in April, 1941, and then completed his training at Harewood. He sailed for Canada in July for further training. After
receipt of his wings and promotion to Sgt Piliot he was sent to England the following December. He was posted to a Spitfire Squadron and prior to his death took part in many raids over the English Channel. His elder brother Max, went away with the Ist Echelon and is now in the Middle East and h»ais served in Libya, Greece and Crete.
