FINAL ADVOCATIONS

At a meeting of the local committee of the Awake New Zealand Campaign held on Fridlay evening it was decidted in

view of the altered circumstances effecting the defence of this* country that the committee should adjourn sine die, appoint-

ing a sub-committee comprising the chairman (Mr L. Buddie), secretary (Mr C. F. Thomas) and the Home Guard liaison officer (Mr Les Littlejohn) to deal with any immediate matters which might arise and to call a full meeting when occasion demanded 1 . The secretary tabled a financial statement showing that a total of £238 7s had been collccted and of that, sum there still remained £59 10s to be allocated. It Avas therefore a question of making new allocations in order to dispose of the funds in accordance with the objectives originally in view. After a brief discussion it was decided to vote a separate sum of £25 to the Edgccumbe Amazon Battalion. members of which are in need of overalls, blouses and footwear and to hand the balance to Majors C. R. Wilson and 1. 13. (low. OlC.'s of the Whakatanc and Rangitaiki Home Guard Battalions respectively' to be spent as they deemed best, retaining £5 to keep the bank account open. The question raised in the Beacon on Friday last regarding the method of spending the forthcoming Christmas holidays, and the grave risk of declaring the usual national break, of a fortnight, was also fully discussed and it was decided to forward on the suggestion to Headquarters for consideration and comment.
