LOCAL committee; meets
The monthly committee meeting of the Whakatane P'lunket Society was held last Monday. Present: Mesdames Cairns, Shapley, Zinsli, Caisley, Spring and Morpeth. Mrs Cairns advised that the management of the Regent Theatre liad kindly granted a benefit night to the Society on Wednesday, August 2(). The picture "New Wine" being 1942's loveliest musical romance the basis of which is a romantic episode is Schubert's life. It was decided that tickets be printed immediately and distributed by Mrs Morpeth to all members, of the committee. Each member to canvas one or two streets as was run so successfully last year. Bearing in mind that the Society has a large sum to find each year to maintain its services to the trict it is hoped that the public will support members in their endeavour to raise funds. Nurse Armstrong has now arranged to visit Waimana every alternate Wednesday from 1.45 to 2-45 p.m. A Fetter was received from the Dominion. President asking for support in an endeavour to obtain materials for layettes. The Nurse was asked to reply giving details of shortages in Whakatane. It has since been announced in the Press that three of the largest New Zealand woollen mills will immediately begin production o.f baby wool and flannel, which will be on the market in six. weeks.
