HOME GUARD PARADES
REASONABLE EXCUSES ACCEPTED
BUILDING UP STANDARD
While it is definitely compulsory now for Home Guardsmen to put in 24 hours training per month, we have been asiked in order to avoid' any possible erroneous impressions getting abroad to make it clear that there will be no umjuslt persecution. in the enforcement of these powers. The Home Guard, in this area has a relatively high percentage parade attendance and both the Rangitaiki and Whakatane Battalions have won special commendation in this respect. To-day a further notice setting out the parade days for the Whakatane Battalion is also advertised.
There is not, nor has there ever been any intention of unduly worrying the man who is conscientiously doing Ins utmost lo attend parades, but through circumstances beyond his control is unable 1 to fulfil them all. The difficulties of civilian life at present (particularly for farmers) is thoroughly realised, but at the same time there does exisit an element which though only small is obviousty evading their obligations and who must be made to realise them.
