HEAVY WEATHER

WAS IT THE EQUINOX ?

WIND AND RAIN SQUALLS The broken weather which has prevailed more or less throughout the week constituted the most wintry spell which this district lias yet experienced this year. Rain and wind squalls swept the Bay without intermission throughout Tuesday, Wednesday and yesterday and the total rainfall exceeded 5 inches for those three days. The heaviest and most consistent rain fell at night, the worst visitation being on Wednesday evening when the wind blew almost at gale force. Those who are inclined to think the- storm was born of the annual Equinoxial gales should remember that these usually fall in mid-Sep-tember and if they were then the phenomenon was inordinately early. Heavy seas have swept the easting coast line and at Ohope some of the finest breaker displays of the year have been witnessed.
