DREDGING AT WHARF
PUMPING OPERATIONS SUGGESTED ENQUIRIES TO BE MADE Capt C. H. Brebner, writing the Wliakatane Harbour Board last Friday in liis capacity as consulting engineer, apologised for his inability to have taken bed levels, of the depth of \Vatcr at the wharf and quoted a conversation which he had had with an Auckland harbour engineer, who had suggested the utilisation of a G" gravel pump and some 400 ft of piping to pipe the silt to the reclamation. Disciissing the letter the Board favoured the suggestion and decidcd to follow it up. The chairman, Mr W. R. Boon, said the Board had been negotiating with the Lands Department for the hire of its dredge but had not so far been successful. However it would be worth while getting what information possible on the subject. The Board decidcd to w 7 rite Messrs Glias. Palmer and Co., Auckland, making enquiries as to the necessary plant, and if such would be available for hiring. Failing this to endeavour to have the work done by contract.
