RIVER EROSION
POSITION AT LANDING ROAJ>
QUESTION OF RESPONSIBILITY
Writing the Whakatane Harbour Board last Friday the Borougk Council drew attention to the consistent erosion -which was taking, place at Landing Road west, near the i*iver bank. The council mentioned that the matter had been brought to the Board's notice some considerable time ago. Elaborating on the letter, the chairman. Mr W. 11. Boon, said that he had interviewed the Mayor on the subject and laid the whole position before him. It was now, broadly a question of where the responsibility lay. Mr Barry, said Mr Boon,_ had undertaken to go „ into the matter from the legal point of view, as lie contended that the Board was responsible under more recent legislation covering the question of erosion. Nothing however had been heard from him since. The Board decided' to shelve the matter until the legal position was clarified.
