CHURCH SITE
SELECTION AT EDGECUMBE COUNTY COUNCIL'S SUGGESTION A sub-committee of live Whakatane County Council recently conferred with members of the Catholic Church Committee at Edgecumbe and Father Zanna with a view to negotiating an exchange of church sites in view of the move to create a new recreation reserve in that township. The committee staled that it would be willing to purchase another Edgecumbe church section provided the council paid a sum for the present site commensurate with the new* purchase. At the county council meeting last week it was agreed that land be taken under the Public Works Act in Edgecumbe township fronting the river and situated between M<r Hunt's eating house premises and Mr Hujit's residence.
When discussing this project Uie chairman, Mr J. L. Burnett, saul it was proposed to oifer the church a special site in this reserve in exchange for the present site. This offer would be made and the matter reported hack to the council.
