WAIMANA NOTES

INSTITUTE MEETING

The July meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women's Institute was held last Wednesday afternoon fn the Waimana Hall, Mrs Hewitt presided. There was a very good at-* tendance of. members, although the day was wet and stormy. The Institute song was sung and the minutes followed.

A most interesting letter was read from Charles; (Pick) Menzies, who Is serving in the Middle East, thanking th.e Institute members for a parcel received, stating how much it was appreciated. A 1 letter from the President of the Dundee Women's Institute in Scotland,, was also read and proved most interesting.

It was decided to hold the Instil Lute birthday in the afternoon and Invite sister Institutes. Mrs Woolfield stated that the Waimana-Nuku-hou Institute had won the talent competition,, thus winning a Silver Rose Bowl; the sum of £12 had been made from 2/-.

The roll call proved most popular It being exchange of plants or seeds and gardening hints. The Golden Thread was given by Mrs Black, who read an interesting paper on a trip to Taupo. Impromptu speeches by twelve members, proved quite entertaining.

The day's competitions were as fololws: Best double flower, Mrs; F. Bell 1; Mrs King 2\. Best single flower, Mrs Wylde 1; Mrs Wool field 2; Mrs B. Wardlaw 3. Best vegetable, Mrs Wylde 1; Mrs Hewitt 2; Mrs F. Bell 3. Ginger biscuits, Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs T. Wardlaw 2; Mrs King 3. Three best carrots, Mrs F. Bell 1; Mrs T. Wardlaw 2; Mrs Black 3.

The judges and hostesses were thanked by the president, and the singing of the National Anthem closed the meeting.
