DAMAGE TO FARM
MILITARY MANOEUVRES QUESTION OF COMPENSATION At last Executive meeting of the Auckland Farmers" Union the matter of compensation to farmers for damage done to their properties by military forces during manoeuvres was under consideration. It was stated that in some cases where farming was intense, the loss of a few acres of pasture was a serious matter. The issues involved were not only the effect on capital value, but also the possible reduction immediately in income. It was decided that a committee comprising the President, Captain H. M. Rushworth, Mr A. C. A. Sexton and the Secretary be asked ■to handle'the matter, and that the following recommedations be made: (1) That before any property is taken over by the Army a valuation should be placed upon it. (2) That a rental payment should be made for the duration of the war or until full compensation is made. (;]) That full compensation and/or restoration sjiould lie made as soon as is practicable.
