REDUCTION ASKED FOR
NUKUHOU FARMERS' REQUEST COUNCIL HAS NO AUTHORITY Writing the County Council yesterday Mr F. J. Savage of Nukuhou stated that prior to the last cut in benzine licenses he was in receipt of 73 gallons per month, but since then had received only 46 gallons monthly. Approximately half of this quantity was used for work on the farm and the other half for ling on the roads, which meant that the lorry covered approximately 700 miles on the roads quarterly. As a large truck was required for the conveyance of stud stock, it autocame within the scope of the heavy traffic regulations, and consequently no advantage coukl be taken of the reduction granted for farm trucks. The cost of the heavy traffic license, at the reduced mileage, now worked out at approximately 2.1/3 d per mile and i;t was asked that the council consider the matter with a view to a reduction In the fees being made. The County Clerk reported that 50 per cent reduction in heavy traffic fees applied only to classes A to A, i.e. A class to 2% tons, 13/-i per quarter, and F class to 5 tons, £2 11/- per quarter. MrF. J. Savage had a Dodge truck, unladen weight 2 ton lOcwt, which was registered for heavy traffic under H class (6 tons), quarterly fee being £6 16/-. The meeting therefore resolved that Mr Savage be advised the fee charged him was in accord with the regulations and the council has no authority to vary such.
