HOTEL HOURS
RESTRICTING DRINKING " New regulations covering the hours for the selling of intoxicating liquors in hotels were released yesterday and come into immediate operation. The actual restricting of the ordinary day by one hour is not calculated to have any effect at all upon sales, but the Saturday afternoon gap of two hours must have considerable repercussions upon the drinking fraternity as iit cuts into the half holiday which is more less recognised as a ready-made opportunity for visiting the hotels. Briefly the new position, designed, we are told 1 , to serve the dual purpose of curtailing drinking and of placing a disciplinary bar upon the habit as a war measure, is as under : — Monday to Friday, hours 10 a.m. till 6 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. till 6 p.m»
