ART UNIONS AND HOSPITAL FINANCE
THE question of following Ireland's example and raising money for hospital purposes by means of national Art Unions, was given so much prominence at the recent local body conference in Whakatane that we feel the subject might very well find further ventilation through these columns or by virtue of the written opinion of correspondents. It is only to be expected that many will entertain the strongest scruples in this connection, while others will adopt the more practical attitude which will not hesitate to take advantage of an undeniable national weakness, by exploiting it for more praiseworthy ends. Certainly the latter view would be an improvement on the present state of affairs which makes for little or no useful disposal of the profits. In any case it would be of considerable interest to guage the local reaction to the suggestion.
