NURSING AIDS NEEDED
FREQUENT advertisements in the BEACON for 'nursing aids' for the Whakatane Hospital has prompted the writing of this article in an effort to enlist the interest of young women in this very vital work. Owing to the growing demand for the services of young women in all branches of industry and commerce the more deserving social services are being overlooked. It should .be realised however that the nursing profession represents possibly the highest type of service a woman is capable of giving and in the present state of national emergency the knowledge which is gained in the process of training may prove invaluable. Such work can be honestly regarded in the light of a genuine war effort and those interested should realise the splendid opportunity they have of assisting towards their own degree of usefulness should ever the need arise. Any girl undertaking this class of work earns a salary of £78 and, in addition receives her keep and her uniform free. Enquiries should be made with the Matron or the Board's Secretary.
