Lorry Driver Fined I'n the court yesterday the Whakatane County Council's Traffic Inspector, Mr A. Carling, proceeded against Harold James Cxardener, driver of a heavy lorry for exceeding the speed permitted by the regulations—23 rn.p.li. The inspector stated that on April 14 last lie had followed defendant's truck Avliich was loaded with pumice and clocked his; speed' at varying between 35 and 40 m.p.h. Fined £3 and costs 325. Standard of Butter The Rangitaiki Dairy Company has been Avarmly congratulated on the standard of its exhibits in the competition held recently in the Auckland grading stores. In view of the lack of competition owing to the lapse cf the Waiknto Winter Show, the inter-factory competition took place in Auckland. Rangitaiki received nine placings in 1G events, these being 1 first, 5 seconds! and 2 thirds. In addition it was awarded 3rd in the championship. Watching a Dredge Interest in a dredge operating in the Tarawera Stream, cost Taute Edwards a fine of £1 and! costs amounting to 37s in the Court yesw terday when he was charged with failure to keep a proper lookout while driving liis> car. The charge arose out of an accident between defendant's car and a lorry approaching from the opposite direction. Edwards admitted that he allowed his car to drift to the wrong side of the road owing to his occupation and , therefore pleaded guilty. s.
