LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
MONTHLY MEETING HELD TALK BY MRS J. PEARSON The monthly meeting of the League was held in Knox Hall on Tuesday afternoon last. There was a fair attendance of members and friends. The formal opening, the reading of the Rules and Objects was conducted by the president, Mrs W. Sullivan, after which Sll' present joined in special prayers for peace and a wartime litany. The main feature of the afternoon was. a talk by Mrs John Pearson on her travels through Europe and America. The speaker described her impressions: of each country visuited, the beauty of Switzerland! and the love of their country by the Swiss, and the wonderful buildings, roading and traffic control of the United States. One impression Mrs Pearsoa said she'would never forget was that of fear seen in the actions of travellers en shipboard in storms; on the ; feverish faces of the gamblers at Monte Carlo; in the minds of the Italians discussing the possibility of war with England; with the Jews fleeing from Germany; and with herseHf during terrific storms at both Amsterdam and New York, and again during the blackout on the boat on the return journey. In such times, said the speaker, the calmncss and courage given by prayer, was: wonderful. Mrs Pearson was warmly applauded for her very interesting, talk after which afternoon tea was dispensed by members of the committee;, and the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
