FORTY-FIVE MORE MEN FOR CAMP
YESTERDAY morning's train took a further forty-five men from this district to military camp. This new draft of our local manpower represented the main body of men included in the last age-ballot for married men. It will constitute a substantial addition to the number already drawn from this area into the armed forces. While it is impossible to give a correct estimate of the number of men already serving it is reasonable to surmise that it is something approaching the 1200 mark. The last of the volunteer echelons saw just on 600 join the colours and since that time, the ballots have eliminated first the eligible single men and now the fit married men up to the age of 32. The country is now awaiting the next announcement from the Minister of Manpower relative to the. future policy to be adopted and the possibility of further ballots.
