EPIDEMIC OF ACCIDENTS

THE growing number of minor accidents in this district has assisted very materially towards the accommodation problem at the local hospital. With the decline of road accidents as a result of the shrinking benzine allocation, it was natural to assume that the number of casualty hospital cases would; diminish. This has not been the case however and irrespective of the traffic volume on our roads, the number of mishap' admissions to the hospital shows a mounting tendency. Possibly the 'blackout' restrictions play their part, particularly where elderly persons are concerned, but the main cause can be traced back in the majority of instances to straightout carelessness either on the part of the victim himself or of some other person who thoughtlessly committed an act of stupidity. In these days when hospital accommodation is so taxed and beds.are at a premium it behoves people to exercise more care or in plainer words to make mare use of their God-given common sense.
