MEAT PRODUCTION

KILLINGS TO MID-MARCH The official figures of killings for the present season at the Dominion's Freezing Works from Ist October till March 14th, as issued by the New Zealand Meat Producers Board, .show that lamb killings to that date total 7,597,678 carcases, this being a decrease of 78,300 carcases compared with the killings to March 15 last season. Wether mutton killings are 510,380 carcases, and ewe mutton killings 1,185,986 carcases, compared with 391,928 and 1,119,705 carcases respectively last season. Details of the lamb and mutton killings in the North and the South Islands, with figures for the previous season in parentheses are as follows:— North Island T-nmb 1,159.744 (4,416,370) Wether Mutton 473,465 ( -351,598) Ewe Mutton 794,2i29 ( 811,095) South Island Lamb 3,137.934 (3,259.608) Wether Mutton 36,915' ( 40,330) Ewe Mutton 391.757 ( 338,610) Frozen beef production is now 171,138 quarters compared with 236006 quarters last season.. Porker killings total 97,814 carcases, an increase of 49,329 whilst baconers total 189,896 carcases, a decrease ol' 57.357.
