FAILURE TO ENROL
RESERVIST CHARGED
COMMITTED TO DETENTION
At a sitting of the Magistrate's Court held at Opotiki before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., Frank James Stevensoiij aged 27 years, single 1 , was charged that on sth February, 1942. at Wanganui, he did without lawful excuse, fail to comply with an ord.er under National Security Regulations, in that, having been required by an authorised officer by notice 1 in Gazette No. 11, to report at time and place, failed to do so. Accused, who was arrested by Constable O. Rice at Taneatua, pleaded guilty. Sergeant J. Isbister who conducted the prosecution on behalf of the police, stated that defendant enrolled for National Service. When he was called up for service he failed to report. A warrant was issued for his arrest and this was effected by Constable Rice in Taneatua. Defendant had moved from placc to placa working. When asked if he had anything to sa3 r , defendant stated that he had been in the Taneatua district for about a year, and when he moved he failed to change his address. The magistrate made an order for defendant to be committed to defaulters' detention, and if Avilling to serve he 'would be sent to military camp.
