SECOND OFFENCE

Arrested on Tuesday evening by

Constable W. A. Rathic, Christmas Mansfield, a native farmer of Torerc,' appeared at the Opotilu Police Court last week on a charge of being found in a state of intoxications' while in charge of a car on Marcb 3. in King Street. Messrs F. J. Shcrt and W. T. Burrett, Justices, wiQ occupied the Bench, convicted accused on the charge, imposing a line of £15 and cancelled his driver's license for 12 months. Accused, wha was 42 years of age, pleaded guilty to the charge. Sergeant J. Isbister, who conducted the prosecution on behalf of the police, stated that accused came into town and was in the hotels most of the day. He was arrested by Constable Rathie just before S p.m. A doctor had furnished a certificate which stated that .accused was not in a fit condition to drive it car. Accused had previously been before the court for the same class of offence in 1936. Accused stated that he' had nothing to say; but asked to see the doctor's report.
