MANPOWER COMMITTEE
APPEALS AGAINST SERVICE SITTING AT WHAKATANE The Manpower Committee visited this district last week to hear a number of appeals against service in Home Defence Units. The commitee, with a view to conserving netrol, is now visiting various localities and sitting in district schools n.r public halls. At Whakatane the following decisions were reached with men other than volunteers:— The appeal of H. E. Hatcher for his son C. M. Hatcher was adjourned for hearing in conjunction with the appeal of S. G. Spence; the apneal of Mrs Haultain for lier son C. A. Haultain was adjourned until 31/3/42 providing the reservist remains in his present occupation and continues to serve with the Home Guard and complies with the conditions of service therein; the appeal nf .T. G. Johnson employed by Mr Kirkbride was dismissed for the want of prosecution; D. G. McDonnld employed by the Public Works Department was heard and his case ndjourned sine die so long as he remains in his present occupation.
