BLACKOUT INSPECTION
i WARDENS VIEW TOWN FROM SEA SPLENDID RESULT OBTAINED Choosing' late 1 shopping night some wardens of the Whakatane Emergency Precautions Service went several miles to sea on the Port Whakatane on Friday evening for the purpose of inspecting the biackout. Thiis proved to be well done and no lights were visible irom the town, Hililcrest or the Head's after the bar had been crossed. Car lights revealed themselves on Hillcrest and at Ohope 011 several occasions and when handy to the town a faint sky glow was visible apparently coming from the Strand. The chief warden, Mr B. S. Barry, expressed himself as very pleased with the result of the residents' work and said he was agreeably surprised that the town was so- well cloaked in darkness. However, .he added that residents had reason at present to take every care to screen lights effectively.
