ALL PURPOSES APPEAL

SUM OF £2300 REQUIRED

WHAKATANE'S QUOTA

In a circular letter to burgesses, the Mayor, Mr B. S. Barry* has set out details for the collection of the town's percentage of the newly released All Purposes Appeal,

The Auckland Province is called upon by the Provincial Patriotic Council to raise the sum of £500,000 for patriotic purposes by December 31 next, the amount allotted to the Whakatane Borough (including Ohope) Patriotic District being £2.300. The fund raising methods heretofore adopted are now impracticable to some extent, for which reason the executive of the lccai committee has decided to raise the bulk of the amount required by asking residents for direct contributions during each of the remaining months of this year, Februsry to December inclusive.

Forty-five helpers have been good enough to. agree to assist in the collection and within the next few days one will call ifpon householders respecting the February donation. He subsequently will again call each month covering the duration of the Appeal and the committee solicits a regular assistance, Avhich it trusts' will be commensurate with the importance of the objects of the Appeal.

Citizens will be interested to know that the bulk of the funds collected ?<re being earmarked and definitely set aside for after care and assistance to members of the Fighting Services upon their discharge, 80 per cent of the funds heretofore raised in the province having been set aside for this purpose.

Some objccts of expenditure under the new appeal fund are set cut hereunder for the information cf contributors.
