Backward Maize Crops The indications are that the maize crops throughout the Bay of Plenty will be much below the large yield of last season. The crops Ave re generally sown much later on account of wet weather, and the lower summer temperatures, and in many parts, lack of rain, have made the crops very backward. Unless frosts this autumn are later than usual many of the crops will not be ripe before they are cut back by frost.
