FIRE ON SANDHILLS
COUNTY STAFF FIGHTS FLAMES

YESTERDAY
When the fire which from Saturday night raged on the sandhills between Whakatane and) Thornton threatened the plantation of pines belonging to the Hiarboxxr Board on the siandspit over the river on Monday, the countj' council's outside staff was called out and by 2.30 p.m. had 1 the flames under control. The giang of men used shovels to make fire breaks.
