AUCKLANDER COMMENDED

WELL KNOWN IN WHAKATANE

The "admirable condluct" of Sergeant P. H. Stewart, of Auckland; is commended by. the Commander-in-Chief of the Bomber Command in. routine orders. During a recent attack on Brest, : Sergeant Stewart, who was the observer, saved the life of his wounded second pilot by- administering first aid. A medical officer afterwards said no doctor could have given betteV treatment in the circumstances. Sergeant Stewart, who is a stepson of Mr and Mrs A. Hall, of Commerce Street, Whakatanc, is well known in this town where he received his education before going to the Mount Albert Grammar School in Auckland. Prior to his enlistment he was with the Lands and Survey Department in the northern city and trained for the R.N.Z.A.F. as an obsei-ver at Levin and then in Canada. He has been serving in England for the past nine months. Sgt Stewart's, brother, Jack Stewart, left New Zealand with the First Echelon and is serving in the Middle 'East.
